My SEW Productive MLK Weekend

Good Evening Sewcialites!

Just a quick check-in to share my very quiet, yet productive weekend.

As I reflect on the servitude of Dr. Martin Luther King and the impact of his legacy, I used this weekend to do some selfless sewing and crafting  to include crocheting a  cowl and starting on a t-shirt quilt. Two projects that’s enabling me to not only give, but to push me outside of my comfort zone by crossing off two of my 2017 sewing and crafting goals.

For the cowl, I used the Margaret Cowl Tutorial by Fiber Flux. If you are new to crocheting, have accomplished chaining, making a single crochet and double crochet, then this is definitely a project for you. It came together so fast that I was inspired to make 3 including one with matching fingerless mittens. Tutorial also by Fiber Flux.

The t-shirt quilt has been started with the help of my good friend, Art Quilter Sharmie Williams of Digital Sphinx Designs. With her help, I was able to fully understand and respect the process of t-shirt quilt design from layout, ensuring that the t-shirt image is a good fit for my project, using the right interfacing (EK130 preferred) and how to center the design for the final cut. I’m happy to say that all 15 t-shirt pieces have been cut and fused. Tomorrow, I will start cutting out the pieces for the sash and begin putting rows together. I’m feeling so accomplished and over the moon about this project.

Lastly, I ended the weekend by teaching a “Learn To Sew” Kids Class at my local JoAnn Fabrics where I also serve as the Education Coordinator. While this is a part time job, I don’t consider it work simply because I am doing what I love…sewing, teaching  and SAVING!

Today’s haul with coupons and my employee discount came to $35.57 with a total savings of $50.18. Items purchased included 2 yds of Broadcloth Symphony Cotton Fabric , 2 Skeins of Deborah Norville Chunky Yarn, Dyno Lint Brush, 1 Spool of Coats & Clark Machine Quilting Thread, 2.5 yds of Anti-Pill Fleece and 8 yds EK130 of Pellon Easy Knit  Fusible Interfacing.

Well, that’s it! Until next time!
